When I was a child we would visit my grandparents in McArthur and family in Hamden and throughout Vinton County almost every other weekend. My family still resides in Vinton County and I still visit regularly. The courthouse was built in 1939 and still houses the Vinton County Common Pleas Court, the Vinton County Probate Court and the Vinton County Juvenile Court. Guarding the Vinton County Courthouse is the statue of a Union soldier made of Vermont granite. The county was named after Samuel Vinton an Ohio political leader during the 1800s. Jeffrey L. Simmons is the judge of the Vinton County Court of Common Pleas. N. Robert Grillo is a judge of the Vinton County Court of Common Pleas Probate/Juvenile Division. Vinton County is a part of Ohio’s Fourth Appellate District which includes Adams, Athens, Gallia, Highland, Hocking, Jackson, Lawrence, Meigs, Pickaway, Pike, Ross, Scioto, Vinton, and Washington Counties. The McArthur Mayor’s Court is located at 124 West Main Street, McArthur, OH 45651 and can be reached by phone at (740)596-5803 and hears some misdemeanor cases (not DUIs) arising in the Village of McArthur.
