INFORMATION ON THE MIAMI COUNTY MUNICIPAL COURT

miamiOne of the most beautiful buildings in Ohio is the Miami County Courthouse, home of the Miami County Municipal Court.  The court is located on Main St., in downtown Troy, Ohio (address mail to “Courthouse”) and is open from 8am to 4pm Monday through Friday.  The Judges of the Miami Municipal Court are the honorable Elizabeth Gutmann and Gary Nasal.  The court allows the public to access cases [look up cases here] for review and provides court rules [link] and information on various court programs.  If you are arrested formisdemeanor OVI anywhere in Miami County, your case will be heard in this building.

Miami County Municipal Court Gets New Judge

nasalAppointment_022513–from CNO–Miami County Prosecutor Gary A. Nasal will soon be on the other side of the bench after his appointment today by Gov. John Kasich to the Miami County Municipal Court. Nasal fills the vacancy left by former Judge Mel Kemmer who retired in August.  Nasal will need to win in November’s general election to fulfill the remaining years on the unexpired term that ends December 31, 2015.

County prosecutor since 1995, Nasal’s name was one of three submitted to the governor’s office by the Miami County Republican party to fill the vacancy, according to a December 30, 2012 story in the Dayton Daily News. The story also noted that Nasal once worked as a municipal court bailiff.  Nasal earned his law degree from the University of Dayton School of Law. He was admitted to the Ohio bar on November 7, 1988.

Miami County Municipal Court Judge Mel Kemmer Retires

Judge Mel Kemmer of the Miami County Municipal Court announced his retirement earlier this month.  Judge Kemmer was in his second term which expires December 31, 2015.  He was first elected in 2003 and re-elected in 2009.  He practiced law for more than 26 years before becoming a judge. Before that, Judge Kemmer worked as an analytical chemist for several years after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry education in 1970.  He earned his law degree in 1978. His professional background also includes serving as a municipal court prosecutor, assistant county prosecutor and juvenile court prosecutor.  According to Article IV, Section 13 of the Ohio Constitution, the governor has sole authority to fill all judicial vacancies in the state. Judge Kemmer’s replacement will have to run in the 2013 November General Election to fill the unexpired term.  Until his successor is named, Judge Kemmer will continue to serve the municipal court as a retired assigned judge.

Miami County OVI Checkpoint (May 18, 2012)

The Ohio State Highway Patrol will be conducting an OVI checkpoint tonight in Troy, Ohio along County Road 25A near Exit 78.  The checkpoint which is being conducted with the assistance of multiple law enforcement agencies will run from approximately 9 pm until 3 am.

If you want to receive updated information on sobriety checkpoints,  enhanced traffic enforcement, saturation patrols and other important developments that affect you, sign up for text alerts on the main page of this blog.  Text alerts will be sent directly to your mobile device/smartphone in the location you choose in the Miami Valley.  In the past month we have alerted our followers to the State Route 35 traffic initiative and three local sobriety checkpoints.  You should also know that we respect your trust and we will never send you irrelevant information and/or advertisements.  This service is free and available to the general public.
